They arrested a union leader in Los Angeles.
Let me say that again.
ICE arrested a union leader in the United States.
Not for a violent crime. Not for threatening anyone’s safety. But because they know the real threat is solidarity. The threat is organizing. The threat is workers who know their power.
This moment is not just about one person.
It is about the soul of a movement. It is about the silencing of a voice that dared to rise up for the people. And if you’re not watching closely, you’ll miss it. Because it’s not on the evening news. But I promise you — the revolution is already underway.
The Power of Unions: A Legacy We Must Protect
In this country, unions built the middle class.
From the textile strikes in Lawrence, Massachusetts in 1912, to the sanitation workers in Memphis in 1968 holding signs that read “I AM A MAN,” unions have always been about dignity. Safety. Power. Voice. And for Black folks, for immigrants, for poor and working-class people, unions have been our shield when the state tried to grind us down.
My father, Nathaniel T. Julien II, was a union man.
He believed in fairness and in workers having a seat at the table. When he passed, the union stood with our family — because that’s what solidarity looks like. They didn’t just show up for him on the picket line. They showed up for him in death. They came to the funeral, gave, spoke, stood by us. That’s family. That’s power.
And that’s what they’re afraid of.
